Local Museum to Celebrate Anniversary

Next Sunday, the Garrison City Museum of Natural History will be hosting the grand reopening of its Egyptian antiquities wing. The exhibit will feature artifacts from one of the greatest finds of the twentieth century, the treasures of the Lost Pharaoh Ak-Fet Sur. The tomb was located twenty-five years ago by Drs. Marolyn and Thomas Graves. Not much is known about AK-Fet Sur. What is known is that he was what is considered the world’s first recognized tyrant. His reign lasted from 2235 to 2217 BC. His brother Amon Sur expunged all official records of Ak-Fet Sur, after he led a revolt against his brother. His followers hid the tomb that held Ak-Fet Sur’s body. The executive curator of Egyptology Dr. Samuel Hammerstone is especially pleased about this. “This (the reopening) is not only a celebration of one of the greatest finds of the last century, but also it is a celebration of the lives and the work of my sister and brother-in-law.” The curator Dr. Geoffery Vergara states that this is just what this city needs. “With all the troubles the city has over recent weeks, we hope that is will give the people a good diversion.”



The reopening also coincides with the fifteenth anniversary of the deaths of the Graves, who died while on an expedition in Southern Africa. The archeologists boat capsized during a storm, while the couple was attempting to find a hidden temple of Ak-Fet Sur’s followers after his demise.
